Playing The Mins Game - Days 23-29
The Mins Game is a decluttering / minimalism challenge where you remove one item on the 1st of a month, two on the 2nd, and so on, until you reach 30 on day 30... totalling 465 (not 475 as I'd miscalculated). My videos are stopping with day 29, but there's a good reason for that!

    You need to work on your tone, fret buzz, and find more interesting lines.

    • @MartinCliffe
      @MartinCliffe 2 месяца назад

      Except that the tone was what I was wanting, there's no fret buzz anywhere here, and it was a clip of some improvising. But of course it's easy to talk down on someone from an account with no content.

    • @wilfredorodriguez4265
      @wilfredorodriguez4265 2 месяца назад

      Nonconstructive feedback is just that. It is difficult to evaluate tone quality without the context of other instruments. A solo instrumentalist has the right to use any tone they feel fit because fitting in a mix is not necessary. Tone becomes an opinion. I didn’t hear the fret buzz this person was speaking of, and I found your bass lines to be appropriate for many types of music. It wasn’t overly complex, maybe some would say “uninteresting,” but if bass players played the most interesting lines, we wouldn’t be providing the foundation most musics call for. Overall, your performance is clean. If I were to give a piece of constructive feedback, I’d say it’s worth working with a metronome for sometime each day to help tighten up some of your rhythms, but keep up the great work. I say we should always be building each other up. The world has enough negativity. I also don’t have any content on my account, but I do have a PhD in music education and a masters in bass performance so I know when a person has talent and potential. You have both Mr. Cliffe, so please keep up the great work.

      no they should be the same

    • @masudmahmud3123
      @masudmahmud3123 6 месяцев назад

      According to “sweet water” the nut width of the natural colour is 1.692 on the other hand, the black one is 1.6875. Their scale length is a bit different too. The natural coloured one’s scale length is 25.5 whereas the black coloured one’s is 25.6 inches

    • @MartinCliffe
      @MartinCliffe 6 месяцев назад

      @@masudmahmud3123 That contradicts what Yamaha themselves say. Nut width is 43mm (1 11/16" - 1.6875") and scale length is 650mm (25 9/16" - 25.5625") for both. They're just bad conversions from metric on Sweetwater.

    Hi there Martin, may I ask you a couple of questions regarding Yamaha APX - in relation to sound , any huge differences between 1200 and 1000 ? I am from UK but in Guangzhou for a year or two, I noticed it is at least 30% cheaper here, would you buy one in china? . By the by I will be in Bucharest in summer 2024 my wife is from Romania- may see you then. All the best, Patrick

    • @MartinCliffe
      @MartinCliffe 7 месяцев назад

      I've honestly not tried the 1000, but I believe the main difference is in wood used - the 1200 is rosewood back and sides while the 1000 is maple, so should acoustically be a little brighter sounding. Probably no real difference plugged in. As long as you're buying from a legit dealer, buying in Guangzhou should be fine... or pop over the border to HK and get one in Tom Lee Music if you're in doubt. That's where I bought my natural finish one.

      I have one APX700ii and I like it a lot. Once I tryed the APX1000 on a store and I didn't like one thing, the neck finish is GLOSSY instead of natural. So it's a different feeling. The 1200 for sure is a better guitar with better woods.

      Never played one, but the parlor body shape is different, longer and narrower, and obviously no cutaway. And the magnetic pickup would sound quite different to the piezo in the Yamaha. The Gretsch has a more conventional scale length (24" vs 22¾") too, so probably feels like a more normal guitar neck.

    Becoming? The internet's been boring for a long time. The media as a whole, psychologically programs the masses, indoctrinates them to becoming accepting of trivial, just generally boring tripe. And that's what the internet's become. One giant echo chamber ruled by multiple companies...or bots. I wouldn't entirely rule out the dead Internet "theory." Pretty much everyone's robotic, why wouldn't they gravitate towards boring jargon? That or trash.

    • @MartinCliffe
      @MartinCliffe 11 месяцев назад

      Society (and certainly social media) has noticeably deteriorated even in the 2½ years since I posted this video. Truth has been smothered by commerce. Nothing new, but I guess to make anything ubiquitous you have to cater to the lowest common denominator...

    • @nunisthathigh4825
      @nunisthathigh4825 11 месяцев назад

      @@MartinCliffe good point but also if media is appealing to the lowest common denominator then relevance is tossed by the wayside making relevance in the eyes of the public, irrelevant, and for the public, unavailable anyway. It's like at the corner street of some slums, when there's some biblical religious zealot with a bullhorn shouting out fearmongering biblethumpery the cops common response is, "Well, it's his freedom of speech.". Often the same response with companies too. Well, of course, religion just tells its followers to cowtow to the establishment and if any Christian ever gets serious about following the ideas of the bible that's when cops, companies, the establishment in general, doesn't like it. But if anyone was up there on the cross street with a bullhorn speaking against religion or better yet, speaking against the government, we know the cops and companies would switch their free speech stance and be against it. The media corporations/media moguls are preventing relevance and many people in corporations, politics, whatever, are switching their stance whenever it serves their agenda. Because anything can be argued in favor of or against at any time and if people make the argument that best suits the situation then they get the results that value solely them at the moment, not the results that values freedom and independence.
